Troubles Caused by Mosquitos
Diseases transmitted by mosquitoes include malaria, dengue, West Nile virus, chikungunya, yellow fever, filariasis, tularemia, dirofilariasis, Japanese encephalitis, Saint Louis encephalitis, Western equine encephalitis, Eastern equine encephalitis, Venezuelan equine encephalitis, Ross River fever, Barmah Forest fever.
Dengue is the most common vector-borne viral disease in the world. WHO estimates 100 to 400 million infections and 25,000 deaths globally each year.
Bites from mosquitoes carrying certain viruses or parasites can cause severe illness. Infected mosquitoes in many parts of the world transmit West Nile virus to humans. Other mosquito-borne infections include yellow fever, malaria and some types of brain infection (encephalitis).
Do all mosquitoes spread disease? No. Most mosquitoes do not spread disease. While there are about 70 different species of mosquitoes in New York State, only certain species transmit disease.
Reduce mosquito breeding in your home
Don't let water go stagnant. Mosquitoes need stagnant, still water to lay their eggs and for the young to successfully hatch and mature...
- Dump it out.
- Pick up your litter.
- Pay attention to your water features.
- Drain or throw out tires.
- Declutter and get rid of junk.
Mosquit - Liquid Solution:
- Instant coverage
- Remains effective for at least 4 weeks
- Easy to apply
What is Mosquit?
Mosquit is a unique silicone based liquid for mosquito control. It is not a toxic chemical, it worked by forming a very thin film on the water surface and destroying the aquatic stage of the mosquito lifecycle by asphyxiation.
How does Mosquit work?
Mosquit affects the mosquito breeding cycle at all levels. Trains have been undertaken by independent organizations around the world, and they show a consistent pattern:
- The pupae of all mosquito species are destroyed within a couple of hours
- The larvae of all mosquito species are also destroyed, but the time frame varies between species
- Females are deterred from laying eggs on treated water or drown when attempting to pay their eggs.
Mosquit is highly permeable to gases, the presence of the film does not prevent the water from being oxygenated and shows no adverse effects on aquatic, soil and sediment dwelling organisms. Further as Mosquit has a physical action rather than a chemical action, mosquitoes cannot develop a resistance to it or create mutant mosquitoes.
How long does Mosquit remain effective?
The Mosquit film has some unique features which makes it long lasting and effective product for mosquito control:
- It will spread around vegetation to completely cover the water surface (forming a continuous barrier against mosquitoes)
- It is resistant to ultra violet degradation
- It will remain effective for at least 4 weeks
Is Mosquit safe?
Yes it is! Silicones are used in a wide variety of applications including water repellent sealers, hair conditioners and cosmetics for more than 50 years. In fact Mosquit is certified by NSF International for application to drinking water storages in the USA. The European Centre for Eco toxicity Of Chemicals (ECETOC), concludes that, the available data indicate that silicone does not present a risk to the environment or to human healthâ
How do I apply Mosquit?
For small bodies of standing water such as blocked gutters and drains, ponds, water tanks, septic tanks and old tyres, simply apply 0.5-1.0ml per m. A few drops are all that is needed on smaller areas such as pot plants saucers. Repeat application every 4 weeks.
Application Rate & Methods
The recommended application rate for Mosquit AMF is 1 ml per square meter of water surface (10 liters per hectare). Trials have shown that it is effective on the surface for 4 weeks, except in the most extreme conditions.
For almost all situations, Mosquit AMF can be simply trickled on to the water and it will spread across the surface.
It is available in sizes ranging from 50 ml squeeze bottles up to 200 liter drums. Highly Cost Effective.
For very small domestic areas such as vases, pot plant trays and old tyres, Malaria Drops or Dengue Drops are the best option (see separate sections).
